Incresed Proportion Size

After listening to a lesson on healthy eating habits, I found it interesting that our food has increased in size over the past few decades! Food such as muffins, bagels, popcorn bowls, burgers or even pizza slices. After finding out that after 10 years, a bagel size has increased about 3 inches more was astonishing to me! Proportion size is an important factor to people who gain weight and become obese. Reading articles about proportion sizes increasing makes me think back to personal physical fitness about creeping obesity. As a physical educator, we need to know how to keep our students active at least 30 minutes a day. Teaching them lifetime activities could save them from battling obesity and diabetes, and this should be an importance to us as educators. Here is the link to the article that I found! It’s quite interesting: http://www.divinecaroline.com/22177/49492-

Electronic Portfolio

I have been working on my electronic portfolio now for a month or so and I have finally finished it! I am just about to put some final touches on it but I feel very accomplished! I never thought the day would come where it would be finished. It helped a lot that I had everything from 152 already in a portfolio. I used most of my work and information from that to put my electronic portfolio together. I have heard mixed things about electronic portfolio's. One comment that stuck in my head is that when you go into an interview for a physical education job, the administration would much rather see a hard copy portfolio. Has anyone heard anything different? It would be a waste to put all that time and effort into something that won't be put to good use.

Dragon Dictation

A student in our technology for PETE class, Ashley, presented today on a software called DragonDictation. This software was awesome and could be used in any classroom setting. What this software does is type what you say into the microphone into a word document at an amazing speed! It keeps up with what you are saying. I was blown away by this software thinking about how much time you could save as a teacher writing lesson plans and assignments. Although this software in not considered cheap, it would be an amazing assett to the classroom! This can be used with students of different disabilities as well and that is what I consider a great addition to the classroom. Also, on the ipad, Dr. Leight downloaded a free application for DragonDictation, I would recommend getting it! Here is the link to the website if you are interested.

P.E

I am a student at Slippery Rock University majoring in physical edcation and have just started field experience in 352- Secondary Teaching Methods. Today our class went to New Castle high school and participated with students from the grades 7th-12th. The unit they are all currently in is the Volleyball unit. Today we didn't teach but we got involved when the group of students challenged the Slippery Rock students! We took the challenge and they definitely gave us a run for our money! Both teams seemed to have had a good time and the students looked like they enjoyed the competition!
